How to update XFA

XFA updates itself on Windows, macOS and Linux. Use this page to update right away, or when a NixOS system configuration installs XFA.

Desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux)

XFA checks for a new version every 6 hours, installs it and restarts. It waits while the XFA window is open or a fix or sign-in is running.

To update right away:

  1. Open the XFA menu. When a new version is available, it shows New update available.
  2. Click Update, then Update Now.

Linux

On Linux, you can also update right away by running the install command again:

curl -fsSL https://distribution.xfa.tech/xfa-native-desktop-application/install.sh | sh

If your NixOS configuration installs XFA

XFA then updates with your system, not by itself. Update your system as usual:

nix flake update
sudo nixos-rebuild switch

To update only XFA, run nix flake update xfa instead of nix flake update. Without a flake.nix, a rebuild picks up the latest release once the download cache expires, after an hour by default.

The running XFA switches to the new version by itself. With a standalone home-manager, the new version starts at your next login.

Mobile (iOS / Android)

The XFA app updates through the App Store or Google Play, like your other apps.
