How to uninstall XFA

If you no longer need to share your device status with an organization, you do not necessarily need to uninstall the XFA application. You can simply disconnect from the organization within the app, and your device will no longer be associated with that organization.

If you do want to fully remove the XFA application from your device, follow the instructions below.

Disconnect from an organization

To stop sharing your device status with an organization:

  1. Click on the XFA icon in your menu bar (macOS/Linux) or system tray (Windows)
  2. Click on Sharing device status with X organization(s)
  3. A submenu will appear showing all organizations you are sharing your device status with
  4. Click on the organization you want to disconnect from
  5. Confirm the disconnection
  6. Repeat for any other organizations if needed

Uninstall the application

If you want to completely remove the XFA application from your device, make sure to disconnect from all organizations first (see above). Then follow the instructions for your operating system below.

warning

If you uninstall without disconnecting first, your device may still appear as registered in your organization's system.

macOS

On macOS, the XFA application is installed in your user-specific Applications folder, not in the system-wide Applications folder.

  1. Open Finder
  2. Go to your Home directory (click on your username in the sidebar, or press Cmd + Shift + H)
  3. Open the Applications folder located there (/Users/<username>/Applications)
  4. Locate the XFA app
  5. Drag it to the Trash
  6. Empty the Trash to complete the removal
info

There are two Applications folders on macOS:

  • /Applications (system-wide)
  • /Users/<username>/Applications (user-specific)

XFA is installed in the user-specific folder.

Windows

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to AppsInstalled apps (or Apps & Features on older Windows versions)
  3. Find XFA in the list
  4. Click Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions

Linux

The bootstrap script installs XFA to your user directory (~/.local/bin). To uninstall, remove the application files:

rm ~/.local/bin/xfa
rm ~/.local/share/applications/xfa.desktop
rm -rf ~/.local/share/icons/hicolor/*/apps/xfa.*
note

No root permissions are required to uninstall XFA installed via the bootstrap script. If XFA was previously installed via a package manager (.deb, .rpm, .apk), use the corresponding package-manager remove command instead (e.g. sudo apt remove xfa).
