Change your plan
Organization admins change their XFA plan from the dashboard, under Settings > Subscription. This page explains how to upgrade, downgrade, or move to Free, what you are charged, and how to undo a scheduled change. The plans and their current prices are on xfa.tech/pricing.
Before you start
- You need to be an administrator of your organization.
- Every organization starts on the Free plan. Free, Pro, and Max are self-service. Enterprise is arranged with sales, in both directions. See What goes through sales.
- A plan change does not change your seat count. Add seats from the Seats section of the subscription page. To reduce your seat count, contact sales.
- One plan change can be pending at a time. Withdraw a scheduled change before you request another one.
Upgrade
An upgrade (Free to Pro or Max, Pro to Max) applies immediately.
- Open Settings > Subscription and select the plan you want.
- Review the change. The review shows the plan, the amount, and the effective date.
- Confirm. From Free, you go through checkout first and add a payment method. The upgrade applies once the payment method is confirmed.
What you are charged:
- From Free: the plan price for your seats, from the day the upgrade applies. Your renewal date is counted from that day.
- From a paid plan: the price difference between the two plans for the seats you pay for, for the days left in your current billing cycle, net of your discounts. The amount is shown before you confirm and is invoiced by the next daily billing run. Your renewal date does not move.
Downgrade
A downgrade (Max to Pro) is scheduled for your next renewal date. You keep your current plan, and everything in it, until then.
- Open Settings > Subscription and select the lower plan.
- Review what you will lose. The dashboard lists the features you use today that the lower plan does not include. See What you lose on a downgrade.
- Confirm. The subscription page shows the scheduled change and the date it applies.
On the renewal date your organization moves to the lower plan at its price, and the features that plan does not include are switched off.
Move to Free
Moving to Free ends your subscription on your next renewal date. Until then you keep your paid plan.
The steps are the same as for a downgrade. Good to know:
- Seats you added before the move are billed for the days until the renewal.
- Your payment method is kept, so a later upgrade needs no new checkout.
- Free allows one connection and one discovery source. If you have more, the dashboard asks you to disconnect the extra ones first.
Change your billing cycle
Switching between monthly and yearly billing is scheduled for your next renewal date. A new billing cycle starts on that date, at the price of the cycle you chose. Until then nothing changes.
Undo a scheduled change
A scheduled downgrade, move to Free, or billing cycle change can be withdrawn until it applies. Open Settings > Subscription and click Keep my current plan on the scheduled change, then confirm. Your current plan continues as before.
An upgrade applies immediately and cannot be undone. To go back, select the lower plan: the downgrade is scheduled for your next renewal date.
What you lose on a downgrade
Before you confirm a downgrade or a move to Free, the dashboard lists what you use today that the lower plan does not include. Depending on the plans, this can be:
- Blocking access at sign-in. On the lower plan, Enforcement warns users but does not block them.
- Device checks that are not part of the lower plan.
- Agentless verification.
- Weekly Awareness messages and reports.
- Export to GRC tools (Vanta, Drata, Thoropass, TrustCloud, Noru).
- Extra connections and discovery sources. Free allows one of each.
- Details of discovered devices.
- Notifications through Microsoft Teams and Slack.
- Paid seats, when you move to Free.
What goes through sales
The subscription page shows Talk to sales instead of a self-service change when:
- The current or the chosen plan is Enterprise.
- Your organization is on a custom plan or on partner terms.
- Sales arranged a discount for you. A discount code you redeemed yourself does not count.
- You pay a fixed yearly total, usage-based billing, or a unit price that is not the list price of your plan.
Reducing your seat count also goes through sales. Use Talk to sales or Contact sales on the subscription page to start the conversation.
